General description of the collection: Carter B. Magruder papers include general officer's papers and interviews conducted by LTC Charles E. Tucker in 1972. It covers his entire life, mostly his military career (1916-1961) and pre-WWII material, in a small peacetime Army. It relates to artillery; logistics from 1942-1959; his experiences, efforts to secure improvement, and his overall reflections; participation in the peace treaty with Japan; and a tour in Korea, 1959-1961 (including the Rise of Park Chung Hee and the Fall of Syngman Rhee). He addresses general subjects such as the importance of logistics, military career patterns, military justices, and volunteer Army.

Carter B. Magruder was a United States (U.S.) military general. After graduation from the Military Academy he became a 2nd and 1st lieutenant in the 6th, 8th, and 10th United States Field Artillery Regiments and a captain in the 21st and 9th Field Artillery Regiments.
